,ACUPUNCTURE for kids? YES!
I often see children for common childhood conditions like constipation, a cough that is dragging on, frequent colds, digestive issues, asthma and more. Working in conjunction with western medicine to keep kids healthy and happy!
Do you use the same acupuncture needles on children that you use on adults?
No, I use needles that are even thinner. The needles are inserted and promptly removed. To quote Acupuncturist Robin Green we call it "taps", There are also non-needle options used depending on age and what condition is being treated.
Are there NON-needle options?
YES! I often use a combination of techniques depending on what the treatment goal is. I utilize a form of Chinese Medicine massage called tuina, acupressure, cupping (small suction cups used on the back), and an electrode pen that delivers a small current over the acupuncture point. All PAINLESS! Often dietary changes are suggested along with rest to help aid in the balancing of the body.
How long is a child session?
It varies between 15-30mins. A child session is unlike an adult session where you lay with the acupuncture needles in. It is much more dynamic switching between using tunia (TCM massage), acupressure or putting in a few quick "taps" (acupuncture needles). The child is free to move around the room and play, read and examine where they are. Children are very intuitive in what they need to bring their bodies back to health. Be open to how the session will go, some children like to sit with their caregiver, sit with me or look out my window. (no screens please, allow the eyes and brain to rest)
What about teens or older children?
The treatment is always discussed and the various treatment options from above are used however at this age most are ready to rest on my table for a while or sit quietly focusing on breathing (no screens please, allow the eyes and brain to rest!)
If you have ANY questions about using Chinese Medicine to keep your family healthy and happy please contact me. I look forward to hearing from you.
